Department of Family Medicine

Master of Business Administration

Articles about leadership and direction in the health care industry contain some recurring themes: Business people don't have a good feel for medicine, while medical people don't have a background in business; and family physicians, because of their broad-based training, seem well suited for functioning in the health care industry world.

Our thought was, Why approach this as a second career? Why not be trained from Day 1 as a person who can flow smoothly between both worlds?

Our combined FP/MBA track will allow you to do just that, and will reduce the time and effort that would be needed if you were to train for the two fields separately.

The first two years of this four-year program are spent in a traditional family practice residency at one of the top primary care teaching programs in the country. The last two years focus mainly on completing either a standard MBA or an executive MBA in the nationally recognized College of Business Administration at the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO), while still maintaining a focus on clinical medicine and finishing your ABFP requirements. Individuals selected for the program will work alongside leaders from other industries, providing a unique opportunity to see the business world from many viewpoints.

If you are looking for a program similar to this, you won't find one. This is the only program of its kind in the country.
