Residency in Family Medicine
The University of Nebraska Family Medicine residency offers 52 residency positions in a variety of educational tracks designed to meet the needs of rural and urban Nebraska, as well as the United States Air Force. Training opportunities for residents in this program are broad and include an academic health science center, military clinics, private offices and community hospitals. The opening of the Bellevue Medical Center in the spring of 2010 has provided another opportunity to expand the training offered to our residents. As a community hospital, it has allowed our residents to train in the type of setting where a majority will eventually practice.
Our Family Medicine residency program consists of the Omaha track and the Rural track. Both provide excellent opportunities for doctors to learn the skills necessary to become successful family physicians. See this year's class.
The Omaha track has 16 residents per year, starting with four slots in the Advanced Rural Training Program that are filled by senior UNMC medical students. There are two positions in the traditional three-year program, two in the Urban Underserved track, and an additional eight are Air Force residents. Visit the Omaha Track page or call Rita at 402-559-7249.
The rural track consists of 5 sites throughout the state, with two positions available each year. The sites are at the following cities in Nebraska:
- Grand Island
- North Platte
