of education, outreach

UNMC's series of radio commercials for spring 2004 focus on UNMC’s education and outreach missions by highlighting the College of Nursing’s Distance Learning Program, the College of Dentistry’s Dental Day and the Goodlife Clinic that is operated by an interdisciplinary team of students.

The Nursing commercial features Wendy Denman from Alda, Nebraska. Wendy just graduated with her B.S.N. which she earned through the College’s Distance Learning program. This program allows those who already have an R.N. degree to earn their B.S.N. through online courses. Stephanie Burge, CON faculty member in Kearney, also comments on what this program means for these students to remain working and still grow professionally.

The dentistry commercial features the college’s Dental Day during which students, faculty and staff see hundreds of children from communities across the state. These children have not had regular access to dental care. Dental and dental hygiene students gain invaluable experience providing care and an understanding of what it means to give back to the community.

Dental Day March 2004

The Good Life clinic commercial features the student-run diabetes clinic located at Baker Place. An interdisciplinary team of students including pharmacy, nursing, medical students work together to develop a care plan for the patients they see. They also find a way to guide the patients to resources, such as prescription drugs they may require to manage their condition.
