Research by Alexander (Sasha) Kabanov, Ph.D., Dr.Sc., focuses on the use of nanotechnology to kill cancer cells resistant to chemotherapy. Funded by several federal grants, Dr. Kabanov already has co-invented a polymer formulation that has achieved up to 1,000 times higher efficacy against drug-resistant tumor cells than doxorubicin, a widely used chemotherapeutic agent.

Kabanov and his colleagues in the College of Pharmacy hosted a symposium on nanotechnology at UNMC in January 2003, which featured a visit by six scientists from the Nanotechnology Researchers Network Center of Japan.
