Bill Kaus, D.D.S.
Rural Health Opportunities Program
Bill Kaus graduated from UNMC's College of Dentistry in 1998. He then
returned to Chadron, Neb., to take over the practice of his family
dentist.
UNMC's Rural Health Opportunities Program helped Dr. Kaus with his
decision to return to his rural roots.
RHOP is an
initiative that is a collaborative effort between UNMC, Wayne State
College and Chadron State College. WSC and CSC students who complete their
undergraduate studies are admitted into participating UNMC programs.
- As of September 2004,
423 students have enrolled in RHOP.
- 237 RHOP
students in nine different programs have graduated from UNMC.
- More
than 56.6 percent of those not currently enrolled in a medical residency
are practicing in rural Nebraska.
- Another
14.5 percent practice in rural areas in nearby states.
- These
professionals include dentists, dental hygienists, pharmacists, medical
technologists, physician assistants, physical therapists, physicians,
radiation sciences professionals and nurses.
Dr. Kaus was born and raised in Chadron, and graduated from Chadron
High School in 1991. He attended Chadron State College until he enrolled
in the UNMC College of Dentistry in fall 1994. After graduating in spring
1998, he returned to Chadron.
Dr. Kaus began practicing in August 1998, when he bought the practice
of Dr. Keith Thomas, his childhood dentist. He and his wife, Tracy, have
two children: Mitchell and Morgan.
