Design and Building of Custom-TALENs

Transcription Activator Like Effector Nucleases (TALENs) are tools described recently that perform cleavage of genomic DNA at a precise location. Once cleaved, DNA gets repaired by either of the two mechanisms: A more common Non-Homologous-End Joining (NHEJ) mechanism a less common Homology Directed Recombination (HDR) mechanism. NHEJ process has been harnessed to create knockout cells or organisms since NHEJ almost always leads to either loss or gain of few base pairs near the cut site.
