Specimen Shipping Information

• Notify HGL in advance by calling (402) 559-5070 or Fax (402) 559-7248 to notify the laboratory of specimen arrival and/or to arrange for specimen pickup (pickup provided within the Omaha-Council Bluffs metropolitan area only). Outside of this area, the transport of specimens by overnight express courier service will be paid by HGL. Specimens must arrive within 24 hours of collection.
  
• After Hours Specimen Pick Up:  Call (402) 559-5070; messages are recorded and retrieved the following  morning. On weekends and holidays, telephone the cytogenetic technologist on-call at (402) 203-2110 for notification of specimen arrival or pick up. 
• Specimens should be collected under sterile conditions and transported at room temperature unless otherwise indicated. Special arrangements are required if extremes in temperatures or if extended transport times are anticipated.  SPECIMENS SHOULD NOT BE FROZEN.
  
• Label the specimen with two patient identifiers (patient's full name and date of birth), as well as date/time of specimen collection. Please use indelible ink or gummed patient labels to label specimens.
• Send a completed Test Request Form with the specimen. Include the patient’s name, date of birth, diagnosis, physician’s name and phone number, billing/insurance information and tissue type.

  Telephones
  The main laboratory phone line (402) 559-5070, is answered by the office support staff during general business hours. After hours, on weekends, and holidays the phone is transferred to the University of Nebraska Medical Center voice-mail system. Messages are retrieved daily.
  
  On weekends and holidays, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. contact the cytogenetic technologist on-call by cell phone (402) 203-2110 for notification of specimen arrival or pick up. In the case of an urgent clinical matter, Dr. Sanger may be reached by calling (402) 679-1909.
