The section of General Surgery is one of eight sections in the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) Department of Surgery and encompasses specialties in General Surgery, Surgical Oncology, Vascular Surgery, Trauma and Critical Care, and Pediatric Surgery. 

The General Surgery section currently has 13 faculty members and 4 mid-level providers who provide clinical services at The Nebraska Medical Center, The Omaha Veteran’s Administration Hospital and Children’s Hospital in Omaha. The Nebraska Medical Center is one of 3 major health care providers in the Omaha area, serving Eastern Nebraska and Western Iowa. The main teaching hospital has a capacity of 421 beds. The General Surgery Residency has four categorical positions at each level.
