MINIMALLY INVASIVE FELLOWSHIP

UNMC DEPARTMENT OF SURGERY


Dr. Dmitry Oleynikov is the program director for the Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS) Fellowship at the University of Nebraska Medical Center.  The fellowship was started in 2003.  This is an advanced laparoscopic and bariatric training fellowship where one MIS Fellow is chosen each academic year (July 1 to June 30) with an annual salary commensurate with level and experience based on graduate medical education parameters.

The University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) offers a one-year, paid Advanced Laparoscopic Fellowship with exposure to Foregut, Bariatrics, Robotics, Solid Organ and Colorectal surgical training.  The Fellowship starts on July 1 and is completed June 30.

UNMC has wet, dry and simulation labs on site where teaching and research will be performed.  Minimally Invasive operative techniques that will be learned include:  Heller Myotomy, Nissen, Lap Gastric Bypass, adjustable Lap Banding, Lap Solid Organ, Lap Colon, Lap Common Bile Duct, Lap Esophagectomy, and Lap Hernia Repair.  These techniques will be performed in the newly opened Minimally Invasive equipped operating rooms.

Research Activity = 30%

Number of Cases completed by fellow in one year:  approximately 200
95% of cases will be laparoscopic; 5% of cases are open
