Steps to Admission

Step 1: READ ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS AND OTHER IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Applicants should read through the links to the left of this page, as well as the admission requirements and recommendations for the academic program to which they intend to apply.

Step 2: APPLY FOR ADMISSION
Students must submit the online application and supporting documents by the appropriate deadlines. Additionally, a $45 application fee, three letters of recommendation, a narrative describing the applicant’s career goals, and official transcripts of all college work must be received by the Graduate Studies Office. Note: students may only apply to one degree program per semester.

The graduate programs graciously waive the application fee for students participating in special programs. These programs include: NU-PATHS, McNair, BRIN/INBRE, and CSC. If you are a participant in one of these special programs, please identify it in the appropriate section on the application. Additionally, when submitting your application, choose the 'Waiver' option in the fee payment section. Please note, your participation in the program will be verified before your application is processed.

Students applying late may encounter delays in admission and may not be able to register for the desired session. Transcripts and all other materials submitted in support of an application become the permanent property of the University and will not be returned.

Deadlines - Graduate programs have varying application deadlines. See the link to the left for the deadlines by program. Not all programs admit students in every semester. International applicants are strongly advised to apply well ahead of the deadlines to allow time for all documents to be received and, should admission be offered, time to make visa and travel arrangements. References - Three references are required. The online application system will request that you enter the names and e-mail addresses of three references. These people will receive an e-mail asking them to provide a letter on your behalf.

Narrative - The online application system provides the opportunity to upload a narrative in which the applicant describes his/her career goals and how a graduate degree in the requested program would aid in achieving these goals. If you have difficulty uploading this document, you may submit it by e-mail to unmcgraduatestudies@unmc.edu. Please only submit by e-mail if you have problems uploading and then only after you have submitted your completed online application.

Step 3: ETS SCORES
Students must arrange to have their official score reports for GRE (and TOEFL where applicable) sent from the Educational Testing Service. The Institution Code for the University of Nebraska Medical Center is 6896.

Step 4: OFFICIAL TRANSCRIPTS
Students must arrange to have official transcripts of all college work sent directly to UNMC Graduate Studies Office.
