FINANCIAL SUPPORT INFORMATION (2013-2014)

The following information regarding loans, assistantships, fellowships, and traineeships describes opportunities available at the UNMC.  Consideration for the assistantships, etc. shall not be denied to any person because of age, sex, race, color, disability, national origin, or religious beliefs.

 LOANS/SCHOLARSHIPS 

A limited number of scholarships are available to UNMC graduate students.  Graduate students may also apply for Federal Stafford Loans.  The Federal Stafford Loan is a need-based loan which considers other available resources. Students who do not qualify for loans based on need may borrow from the Federal Unsubsidized Stafford Loan (FUSL) which is an interest bearing loan at a fixed rate of 6.8% or the GradPlus loan at a fixed rate of 8.5%.  Foreign students are not eligible for any of the above resources.  For additional information, contact the Financial Aid Office, Student Life Center, UNMC, 984265 Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, NE  68198-4265, phone: (402) 559-4199.

GRADUATE STUDIES RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIPS & FELLOWSHIPS

 Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants for Assistantships/Fellowships must be full-time students enrolled in a Ph.D.-granting program at UNMC. The applicant must have selected his/her permanent major advisor.  Ph.D. applicants must have completed at least 12 months as a full-time degree-seeking Ph.D. student at the time of application.  M.D./Ph.D. students must have been enrolled as a full-time Ph.D. student for at least one complete semester (excluding summer terms) at the time of application. NEW this year:  Funding in this competition will be awarded for a period of two years, with the second year contingent on submission and approval of the UNMC Assistantship/Fellowship Annual Application. 

Students will not be considered for funding beyond their fifth year of study.

 Letter Of Intent – Deadline:  December 31, 2012

The Graduate Studies Office is now accepting Letters of Intent for the 2013-2014 Assistantship/Fellowship Competition.

Ph.D. Students:  Click here for the Letter of Intent form.  This form along with an abstract (approx. 250 words) must be submitted to unmcgraduatestudies@unmc.edu  by December 31, 2012 in order to be eligible for the competition.
