UNMC Graduate Studies Convocation Ceremony and the UNMC Commencement Ceremony:
Graduating M.S. and Ph.D. students should attend both the Graduate Studies Convocation Ceremony and the UNMC Commencement Ceremony. Each graduating student’s mentor is also expected to attend both events. Graduating students and faculty must wear their academic attire (cap & gown) to both of these ceremonies. The deadline for ordering academic attire is April 17th (escalating late fees will apply after March 13th, contact Barb Breazeale ).
- The Convocation Ceremony will be held on Thursday, May 7th at 1:00 PM at the Durham Museum. Students are encouraged to invite their family and friends. This ceremony will be a celebration of each student’s accomplishments while at UNMC, together with the other M.S. and Ph.D. graduates. The deadline for submitting the Honors Convocation Survey is April 17th.
- The Commencement Ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 9th at 9:00 AM at the Ralston Arena. M.S. and Ph.D. graduates will receive their diplomas at this event. In addition, Ph.D. students will be hooded at the Commencement Ceremony. Information about the ceremony will be posted on the UNMC Commencement website.

Requests to waive the requirement to attend Convocation and/or Commencement must be approved by the student’s Program Director and the Executive Associate Dean for Graduate Studies. The deadline for submitting the Waiver Request Form to the Graduate Studies Office is April 17th.
