UNMC Graduate Studies Convocation Ceremony and the UNMC Commencement Ceremony:
Graduating M.S. and Ph.D. students should attend both the Graduate Studies Convocation Ceremony and the UNMC Commencement Ceremony. Each graduating student’s mentor is also expected to attend both events. Graduating students and faculty must wear their academic attire (cap & gown) to both of these ceremonies. The deadline for ordering academic attire is November 26th (escalating late fees will apply after Nov 7th, contact Barb Breazeale ).
- The Convocation Ceremony will be held on Thursday, December 18th at 1:00 PM at the Durham Museum. Students are encouraged to invite their family and friends. This ceremony will be a celebration of each student’s accomplishments while at UNMC, together with the other M.S. and Ph.D. graduates. The deadline for submitting the Honors Convocation Survey is November 26th.
- The Commencement Ceremony will be held on Friday, December 19th at 2:00 PM at the Joslyn Art Museum. M.S. and Ph.D. graduates will receive their diplomas at this event. In addition, Ph.D. students will be hooded at the Commencement Ceremony. Information about the ceremony will be posted on the UNMC Commencement website.

Requests to waive the requirement to attend Convocation and/or Commencement must be approved by the student’s Program Director and the Executive Associate Dean for Graduate Studies. The deadline for submitting the Waiver Request Form to the Graduate Studies Office is November 26th.
