
Regents Medal honors Ruth and Bill Scott
The University of Nebraska Board of Regents’ most prestigious award, the Regents Medal, was presented on Thursday, June 11, to Ruth and Bill Scott of Omaha. The Scotts are among the most generous donors in the history of the University of Nebraska, having made significant contributions to academic programs, scholarships and facilities. “Ruth and Bill Scott have quietly transformed the University of Nebraska,” said Board of Regents Chair Kent Schroeder, “and they have done so selflessly and creatively.” Read more.

Dr. Jarzynka completes program director development fellowship
Kim Jarzynka, M.D., assistant professor of family medicine, is one of 42 physicians nationwide who graduated from the 2008-2009 National Institute for Program Director Development (NIPDD) I: Fundamentals Fellowship. The fellowship is sponsored by the Association of Family Medicine Residency Directors (AFMRD)and lets family physician educators enhance and develop leadership skills to be better to direct residency program.

UNMC celebrates the accomplishments of its faculty for exceptional teaching, mentoring and community service at the Annual Faculty Awards Ceremony. Faculty are also recognized for their long-standing tenure at UNMC.

The University of Nebraska recognizes the importance of honoring accomplished faculty, staff, students, and community leaders and organizations for significant contributions and achievements. Faculty excellence in teaching, research and outreach is honored each spring with the ORCA, OTICA, IDEA and UDTA awards presented by the President. And lasting contributions to the university and to the world are honored with the Regents Medal and Honorary Degrees.

This award is given six times per year to employees who consistently deliver outstanding performance and service to UNMC. Recipients of the Chancellor's Commendation - Gold U are honored at a breakfast with the UNMC chancellor and receive an art glass paperweight, a pin and frame, a certificate and a cash award. In addition, Gold U recipients are honored with KUDOS at a Board of Regents meeting, where they receive a commemorative plaque for outstanding service to the university.
This award is given annually to approximately 120 employees, who provide consistent performance that exceeds expectations or for other special achievements. Unit leaders select employees on a monthly basis. The number of recipients from each unit is based on unit population. Recipients receive a silver ‘U’ pin, a denim shirt with the silver ‘U’ logo and will be invited to lunch with the chancellor. J.G. Elliot Award
The John G. (Jack) Elliott Award of the Chancellor of the University of Nebraska Medical Center will be given annually as provided by Mr. and Mrs. James Massey in memory of Regent Elliott to honor an individual who has made significant contributions to medicine and health programs for the State of Nebraska and for the University of Nebraska Medical Center. The individual must reside in Nebraska and may be a faculty or staff member of the University.
