There are a number of options available to you for your stay here at the University of Nebraska Medical Center / The Nebraska Medical Center. The Lied Transplant Center offers a unique Collaborative Care Program, the first of its kind in the nation. Suites are available based on the type of treatment and care you require and of course occupancy at the time of check-in. We can assist you with reservations at local hotels near our campus, where special UNMC pricing has been negotiated. We also have a local Ronald McDonald House very near our campus to provide a “home-away-from-home” for families of seriously ill children who are receiving treatment at our hospitals. Some children have to travel great distances to get the medical attention they need. In-hospital treatment may last one day, one year, or even longer. For the families of these children, accommodations can be hard to come by; options are often limited to costly hotels or unforgiving hospital chairs and benches. The Ronald McDonald House provides a comfortable, supportive alternative for these families. It serves as a temporary residence near the medical facility where family members can sleep, eat, relax, and find support from other families in similar situations.
We are sensitive to patients’ and their families’ special dietary needs and restrictions. We will coordinate those needs with the medical staff, providing suggestions for healthful and satisfying meals. We will assist you in obtaining regional foods from your specific international culture. Please let us know if you would like assistance in obtaining special foods during your stay.
Business Resource Center
International Healthcare Services, in cooperation with The Lied Transplant Center, offers international patients and their families the complimentary use of an on-site resource center. This facility has a small library and is equipped with a fax machine, copier and computers with e-mail, Internet and World Wide Web connections. Guest services staff will be on hand to help locate web sites or chat rooms of medical interest to patients.
We would like to encourage you to bring an English-speaking person with you if possible. Please let us know in advance if we need to arrange for an interpreter during medical appointments and consultations. If there is not a physical person who is fluent in your particular language available at the time of your appointment, we use the services of the professional telephone interpreters at Cyracom International. There is no charge for either service. Please let us know if you would like assistance in obtaining an interpreter.
It is unfortunate but a sad reality that healthcare costs continue to rise. After our physicians have reviewed a patient’s medical history, we will provide advance estimates for all charges. We will work side by side with your insurance company to obtain authorization for the treatments that you need. If insurance is not a possibility, our professional patient financial counselors will handle deposits and assist patients with other financial matters before, during and after their visit, including the completion of financial and other forms to facilitate settlement of a patient’s medical expenses. We also provide notary services.
We offer several comprehensive physical check-up options for international executives. One- or two-day physicals are tailored to meet the time constraints of busy executives and their families. Any special tests or appointments with our physicians can be scheduled at the same time as an executive physical. Please let us know if you would like assistance in obtaining information regarding our Executive Health Physicals.
