Blue Distinction® is a designation awarded by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska to medical facilities that have demonstrated expertise in delivering quality healthcare. The designation is based on rigorous, evidence-based selection criteria established in collaboration with leading clinicians, medical societies and professional organizations. We specialize in brain cancer, esophageal cancer, gastric cancer, head and neck cancers, liver cancer, pancreatic cancer, rectal cancer, soft tissue sarcomas, thyroid cancer, bone cancer and acute leukemia.

Power and Associates, a national research corporation, is recognizing the medical center for service excellence for inpatient services under its Distinguished Hospital Program J.D. Powers and Associates which judges hospitals by consumer preference, gave us its "Number 1 Consumer's Choice Award." We are always challenging ourselves to provide the best patient care. ‘It s a significant part of our journey to excellence,’ said Glenn Fosdick, FACHE, president and CEO of The Nebraska Medical Center. ‘We want every employee to take pride in the fact that we have earned this distinction four years in a row.’

There are 689 licensed in-patient beds and 29 operating rooms with comprehensive treatment centers for oncology/hematology, general oncology, radiation oncology, stem cell transplantation, solid organ transplantation, cardiology, orthopedics, neurology, geriatric medicine, diabetes, women’s health, neurological sciences, vascular center for all circulatory disorders, intestinal rehabilitation, executive physicals, Novalis shaped beam surgery, donate life services, pharmacy, minimally invasive surgery, physical and occupational therapy and swallowing center. The magnetoencephalograph (MEG) scanner provides doctors the ability to look inside the brain with greater vision that’s never been possible before, giving patients in need of brain surgery the assurance of a safer and more effective surgery and allowing doctors to identify the region of the brain giving rise to epileptic seizures.

America's Top Doctors 
 

Full-time faculty at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, and physicians affiliated with its hospital partner, The Nebraska Medical Center, made the fifth edition of “America’s Top Doctors.” Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. publishes the books to help consumers find good physicians.

 

Physicians are nominated by their peers in a Castle Connolly survey process each year. Physicians then are screened by a Castle Connolly physician-led research team who rank among the best in their specialties and in their communities.
