Our electronic second opinion medical services are available for collegial review on a physician-to-physician basis. Case reviews and treatment recommendations and consultations are available in 34 subspecialties. We provide state of the art pathology, hematopathology and genetics testing, radiology and nuclear medicine. UNMC specialists are committed to providing collaboration and expert opinion to all healthcare professionals who need this invaluable resource. Each referring physician has to register to receive a login ID and password.
Who provides the consultation?
We have exceptional teams in all areas of medicine including leukemia/lymphoma and cancer care, orthopedics, neurology and epilepsy treatment solid organ transplant, surgical oncology, and minimally invasive surgical techniques, cardiology and 34 sub-specialties. UNMC employs over 1,500 staff physicians/faculty/researchers in all healthcare disciplines to assist in collegial consultations.182 of the Nations Best Doctors Practice at UNMC* (*Each year the “Best Doctors” organization publishes its list of the top 3% physicians in the USA. We understand the importance and time sensitivity of this information to you and to your patient. Our goal is to return a consultation and treatment recommendation response within 72 to 96 hours. Pathology and genetics testing take somewhat longer and the length of time expected will be communicated on an individual case basis.
We provide quick consultation and second opinion services in all fields of medicine at reduced prices for our patients through our international Global partnership institutions. It is our intent that prices be the most reasonable for services rendered. Our prices range depending on the type and complexity of the consultation requested.
UNMC shall use and disclose protected health information in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 requirements (HIPAA) to maintain confidentiality and protect patient's privacy. We adhere to the highest standard of privacy. A great deal of care is taken to insure that all medical records and communications take place on a secure network. An electronic or a hard copy of the second opinion is generated for the patient through the primary care provider.

Once logged-in, USMDO’s state-of-the art, web-based, electronic consultation web-site makes transfer of information, data and images quick and easy. Upload images, pathology and patient information through automatically encrypted, password-protected and zipped software provided by UNMC at no cost to healthcare institutions globally. Results usually are sent back within 72-96 hours via web-based software, e-mail, fax, or video-conferencing.
