Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology & Metabolism (DEM)

The Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology, and Metabolism (DEM) is involved in the educational and clinical care of diabetes, endocrine, and metabolic diseases. Areas of expertise include the following:

  • all aspects of diabetes and general endocrinology;
  • evaluation and treatment of pituitary disease,
  • biopsy and treatment of thyroid conditions including thyroid cancer,
  • evaluation and treatment of osteoporosis,
  • women's health issues, including diabetes in pregnancy;
  • evaluation and treatment of female and male hypogonadism,
  • initiation and management of subcutaneous insulin pump therapies,
  • pancreas transplantation,
  • evaluation and treatment of obesity in veterans (at the Omaha VAMC)

The DEM division has active clinical and basic research programs at UNMC and Omaha VA Medical Center. Division members direct activities of the Nebraska Medical Center's (NMC) Diabetes Center which provides adult and adolescent patient care, professional education and training, and basic and translational research.
