The Section of Diabetes, Endocrinology, and Metabolism (DEM) concerns the education and clinical care of endocrine and metabolic diseases. Areas of expertise include the following:

  • all aspects of diabetes care,
  • evaluation and treatment of pituitary disease,
  • evaluation and treatment of female and male hypogonadism,
  • biopsy and treatment of thyroid conditions including thyroid cancer,
  • evaluation and treatment of obesity,
  • initiation and management of subcutaneous insulin pump therapies,
  • osteoporosis
  • pancreas transplantation

The DEM section has active clinical and basic research programs at UNMC and Omaha VA Medical Center. Section members direct activities of the Nebraska Medical Center's (NMC)  Diabetes Center which is a pediatric, adolescent, and adult patient care, research and education unit with links to basic and translational research.
