HIV Clinic
The HIV Program provides comprehensive care of the HIV-infected patient at all stages of the disease. The HIV care team is composed of physicians, nurse practitioners, and registered nurses who specialize in HIV care. The team also consists of social workers and a dietician/nutritionists. We also provide our patients with referrals for psychiatric services.
Consultation in virtually every medical and surgical specialty is available to our patients and is provided by other members of the faculty and staff of the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC). Laboratory testing is done onsite in The Nebraska Medical Center laboratory, except for a few specialized tests.
The professional members of the team are affiliated with the University of Nebraska Medical Center Physicians, the professional arm of UNMC. We accept most forms of insurance, Medicare, and Medicaid. Patients in managed care insurance programs are urged to consult their primary care physicians for referral before making an appointment. Patients without medical health insurance may apply for care under the federal Ryan White Care Act Part C Program that UNMC administers, but this coverage is limited and subject to fund availability. The HIV Clinic sees patients by appointment only, although every attempt is made to see patients with an acute problem as soon as possible. New patients will need to provide basic demographic information before their clinic visit. New patients are advised to bring past medical records, if available, and all medication containers with them to their first clinic visit.
The HIV Clinic is not an HIV testing facility. Individuals concerned about their HIV status and wishing to have an HIV test are encouraged to consult their own physician or have anonymous testing performed at one of the Nebraska AIDS Project sites or another site listed by the State of Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.
