The section of Oncology and Hematology Research has a long tradition of pioneering researches in the field of cancer and its treatment. There are numerous ongoing state of the art clinical trials that are available to all patients with various cancers. The section has been a main member of the Cancer and Leukemia Group B (CALGB) since 1996. The CALGB is one of three multidisciplinary cooperative cancer treatment groups funded by the National Cancer Institute. Each cooperative group focuses on particular areas of cancer research, often collaborating in large-scale clinical trials. The section is also an active Research center of the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research (formerly IBMTR/ABMTR) and is a core center involved in the Blood and Marrow Transplant Clinical Network (BMT-CTN). The BMT-CTN is funded by the National Cancer Institute and is a network of transplant centers in the US actively recruiting patients to various clinical protocols in stem cell transplantation. The Oncology and Hematology section is also known for the establishment of the Nebraska Lymphoma Study Group (NLSG) and is also involved in various industry-sponsored clinical research studies.
Additionally, all faculty members of the section participate in the various programs/studies conducted within the UNMC Eppley Cancer Center.
