Adult Cystic Fibrosis Program

Since August 2000 we have been transitioning patients to the Nebraska Regional Cystic Fibrosis Center Adult Care Program with the goal of providing the best possible care for adults with Cystic Fibrosis.

We are pleased that you have made the decision to transition to our program and we look forward to being an integral part of your health care. We would like to take this opportunity to inform you of some important information about our program.


The Adult Cystic Fibrosis Team includes specialists from the Adult and Pediatric Pulmonary Divisions.

The Adult Cystic Fibrosis Clinic is located in the Internal Medicine Clinic on the fifth floor of the Durham Outpatient Center. If you need to schedule or reschedule an appointment please call the appointment line at (402) 559-4015 or you may call our office at (402) 559-9101 and one of the adult cystic fibrosis staff will assist you.

Clinic appointments are held on Mondays and Wednesday afternoons. Dr. Austin Thompson primarily sees patients on Monday afternoons. Dr. Murphy primarily sees patients on Monday and Wednesday afternoons. Because of previous clinic commitments and hospital service, our physicians are currently unable to have regularly scheduled morning clinic hours. Morning appointments are made on a case by case basis at the discretion of the physicians.




For new illnesses, worsening of symptoms, medication questions, refills and general nursing questions, please call (402) 559-9101. This number will connect you to the Adult Pulmonary secretaries who will either take a message or page one of the Adult CF staff to assist you.

There may be rare times when the secretaries are briefly unable to assist you and you will receive a message asking you to leave a message at this number for the above needs. The secretaries will promptly get your message an forward it on. If you receive this message during business hours, and it is urgent, call the hospital operator at (402) 559-4000 and ask to speak with the Adult Pulmonary Fellow on call to assist you. If you have an emergency then proceed to an emergency room.

You can help us respond better to your calls by calling early in the day, especially on Mondays and Wednesdays when we are in clinic those afternoons. We may need to occasionally return non-urgent calles received during these afternoons the next business day.



For urgent calls during non-business hours, please call the hospital operator at (402) 559-4000 and ask to speak to the Adult Pulmonary Fellow on call. The Fellow will answer your call and provide you with the assistant Attending Staff Pulmonologists and CF physicians are always available if the Fellow needs assistance in addressing your call. If you have an emergency then proceed to an emergency room.

More Information on the Adult CF Program

Peter J. Murphy, M.D. and Austin Thompson, M.D. have been the adult program director and associate program director, respectively, since the inception of the Adult Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Program in August of 2000. Jill Fliege became the first and only nurse practitioner/coordinator of the program when she started in April 2001. Jennifer Rounds has been our nurse specialist since November 2004. Jane Matsui has been our dedicated respiratory therapist since January 2005. Likewise, Jennifer and Jane are the first and only persons to fulfill these roles in our program. Brigid Mordeson is the adult program dietitian and Laura Romero has been the social worker for both the adult and pediatric CF programs. Both have been affiliated with the programs since the year 2000. Deb Heimes and Shandalle Fertig have served as research coordinators in the adult and pediatric programs since they joined our program in May 2007 and September 2008 respectively. Dee Acquazzino, who has been the coordinator of the pediatric program since 1978, is also very active in clinical research within the adult program. We are currently following approximately 125 adult patients with cystic fibrosis 18 years of age and older.
