1. Where is your hometown and where did you do your medical school training?

Hometown: Mitchell, SD

Medical School: Sanford School of Medicine at the University of South Dakota

2. Why did you choose UNMC for your residency training?

UNMC was at the top of my rank list for a variety of different reasons.  First and foremost, I feel like the internal medicine curriculum and training received in this program is truly one of the best in the nation.  Furthermore, when I interviewed here, the camaraderie among residents was very apparent.  The class size is large enough to carry the workload, but small enough that residents really get to know one another.  Another enticing aspect of this residency program is the vast degree of career opportunity following residency.  UNMC residents have excellent placement following residency completion in primary care, hospitalist medicine, and subspecialties.  Additionally, UNMC has fellowship opportunities for nearly every internal medicine subspecialty, and residents have the opportunity to work closely with subspecialty fellows and staff.

3. What is your favorite thing about Omaha, NE?

The city of Omaha has a lot to offer.  The city itself is a nice size in that it is large enough to have diversity, but small enough that you can get virtually anywhere in the city within 15-30 minutes (given the fact that time is precious in residency- this is a big bonus).  A wide variety of restaurants, the Old Market, various concerts, and of course the Henry Doorly Zoo are just a few of my favorite Omaha attractions.

4. What do you like to do away from work?

I enjoy jogging, reading, going to concerts, attempting to golf, and of course having the occasional glass of wine with friends.

5. What are your plans after residency?

Although I am not entirely certain about what I will do upon residency completion, I am interested in pursuing a fellowship in cardiology.
