Students need to apply
for the funding at least three weeks prior to departure to insure
that the funds will be available in time for the trip. Students may
also apply for aid upon return, but will not have the use of the
money prior to the trip. Average processing time is one week.
-
Financial aid must be
multiply disbursed if the loan is made prior to January 15. For
instance, students who apply for $2500 for a fall trip will receive
$1250 of the funding in the fall and $1250 of the funding in the
spring. Federal regulations prohibit a single disbursement of
financial aid until one-half of the academic year has passed.
Spring trips are not affected by this rule.
-
Students graduating in
December who are taking a trip in November/December need to apply NO
LATER than early October.
-
Students applying for
financial aid for medical service trips (e.g., during the spring
break) must apply by March 31.
-
Students taking trips
in May/June/July/August must apply for their loans NO LATER than
April 1. Most students have a last date of attendance of April 30,
and the loan must be certified before that date. GRADUATING SENIORS
taking trips during these months should have their loan applications
completed by February.
-
When several students
enrolled in the same elective apply for financial aid, they are
requested to keep their applications consistent with one another.
An exception is made for the student who elects to apply for less
than the entire amount of the elective cost.
-
The financial aid
request must be signed by the IS&P Coordinator prior to submission
to the Financial Aid office.
