FAQ iPad Security

  1. Lock your iPad --Turn on “Auto-Lock”.
This is the amount of time of inactivity before the iPad’s screen locked. Five minutes is a good overall time. Then turn on “Passcode Lock” to set a 4-digit pin to unlock the screen. The main idea of this recommendation is to think about the four-digit code you want to use to unlock your iPad when you turn it on or wake it up. It is also highly suggested that users set their iPads to erase all data if someone enters the wrong code 10 times. If you cause your data erase by accident you can always restore it by syncing your device with your computer.

  2. Do not store any confidential information on the iPad.
There are many applications available on the iPad to help store and transfer documents. Most of these applications have very little security to protect the documents if the iPad is compromised.

  3. Use Lotus Notes Traveler if the device is going to be used to access your UNMC Notes email. target="_self">setup instructions

  4. Use many, complex passwords for online services and set security to delete history, cookies and cache.
If you do not want that anyone know your private information you've searched at your browser you can keep all this private by deleting your Safari browser’s web history, cookies and cache.

  5. Consider purchasing MobileMe from Apple.
MobileMe from Apple costs approximately $99 annually from your provider and the “Find Me” function can help users locate a lost device. The service can also remotely wipe the device.
