Printer Efficiencies
The individual role of efficient printing is adjustments in personal behavior (only small changes in work habits or accepting minor changes in the work environment), especially in computer and printer use. Below are some items that the general work force can do at their computer to contribute to efficient printing.
- Think before you print! Print and copy as little as possible.
- Duplex printing (print on both sides of the paper)
- Print in “gray scale”
- Print multiple pages on one side of the paper
- Turn off printers when not in use
- Configure printer to activate “energy save” modes
- Use “Print Preview” before or instead of printing.
- Use technology for meetings instead of paper copies of agenda’s
- Consider alternatives to paper copies of newsletters, magazines, personal business (such as paycheck stubs)
- Use e-mail to minimize paper use and don’t routinely print e-mails.
- Invest in a scanner to store documents electronically in a central repository where assigned users can access it for review, approval, and archiving purposes.
- If you are replacing or purchasing equipment such as computers, monitors, and copiers always consider ENERGY STAR qualified products.
- Change default page margins in Word to .75 inches rather than 1.25 inches:
- Circulate documents instead of making an individual copy for everyone.
