About the Film

Follow Alana, as she and her grandmother, Mrs. Williams,

  • make a doctor’s appointment,
  • prepare for the doctor’s appointment,
  • see the doctor, and
  • find health information at the library.

Watch how Alana, her grandmother, the nurse, the doctor, and the librarian gather and follow clues towards an effective treatment and preventive care for Alana’s rash.

Making a doctor’s appointment, visiting a doctor, and finding current health information can be confusing activities for young children and for adults unfamiliar with the US healthcare system. These activities are especially difficult for those who cannot speak English and for those new to the English language.

Following the Clues: A Visit to the Doctor and the Library is intended for early- to mid-elementary-school students. The film content is appropriate for unsupervised viewing by children. For most effective learning, we recommend that parents and children watch the film together.
