GrantsNet http://www.hhs.gov/grantsnet/: GrantsNet is a tool for finding and exchanging information about over 300 grant programs administered by the various agencies which make up the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, as well as selected other Federal grant programs. Provides links to information on finding federal grant information, applying for grants, and regulations governing grants.

Federal Grants

CRISP (Computer Retrieval of Information on Scientific Projects) http://crisp.cit.nih.gov/: "A biomedical database system containing information on research projects and programs supported by the Department of Health and Human Services. Most of the research falls within the broad category of extramural projects, grants, contracts, and cooperative agreements conducted primarily by universities, hospitals, and other research institutions; and funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and other government agencies. A relatively small number of research grants are funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), and the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research (AHCPR). CRISP also contains information on the intramural programs of the NIH and the FDA."

NCI Data Book (under "Budget Information") http://www3.cancer.gov/admin/fmb/index.html: From the National Cancer Institute, this resource gives information on the budget, cancer stats, extramural data, and historical trends.
NIH Grants and Contracts Web site http://grants2.nih.gov/grants/oer.htm: The National Institutes of Health Web site. Provides a searchable database of NIH grant information, or use the "document index" to browse a list of available publications. Provides application forms, and procedures and guidelines relating to NIH grants. Also provides access to the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts, the official document for announcing the availability of NIH funds for biomedical and behavioral research and research training and disseminating policy and administrative information.
NSF Grants and Awards http://www.nsf.gov/funding/research_edu_community.jsp: The National Science Foundation provides information on funding opportunities, proposal preparation, award administration. Application forms are available for printing or downloading.

Foundations Online

Council on Foundations http://www.cof.org/: This site provide links to Community Foundations, Corporate Foundations and Giving Programs, International Grantmakers, and Family and Public Foundations. It also offers information about conferences, workshops, research, and publications.
Foundations.org http://www.foundations.org/: Foundations.org allows you to browse through directories of charitable grantmakers, and you can choose a foundation and search the organization's homepage. Software and products about fundraising are also available.
Foundation Center Grantmaker Information http://fdncenter.org/grantmaker/: Provided by the Foundation Center (publisher of the Foundation Directory -- see "Print Resources" below). Provides a keyword-searchable database of information on 159 private foundations, 64 corporate grantmakers, 22 grantmaking public charities, and 37 community foundations.
GuideStar http://www.guidestar.org/: A national database that provides information about the operations and finances of nonprofit organizations.

The Chronicle of Philanthropy http://philanthropy.com/: This newspaper of the non profit world provides information about grant-related conferences, workshops, and seminars. It also gives a "Guide to Grants", and current issues and funding announcements.
FedBizOpps (FBO) http://www.fbodaily.com/: FedBizOpps (FBO) has replaced the Commerce Business Daily (CBD) as the official listing of all Federal government contracting opportunities and awards over $25,000, and is mandated by the Federal Acquisition Regulation.

Print Resources on Grants Available at McGoogan Library of Medicine

Much grant related information is NOT available cost-free over the Internet. The McGoogan Library of Medicine maintains a special section in the "ready reference" bookcase (behind the Reference Desk) for grant directories and grant information. Some of the major sources available are:

Annual Register of grant support: a directory of funding sources -- Grants (Ref Dept) Q 180 C761: Details of over 3000 grant support programs of government agencies, public and private foundations, corporations, community trusts, union educational and professional associations, and special interest organizations. Arranged by broad topic.
Directory of biomedical and health care grants: with a guide to proposal planning and writing -- Grants (Ref Dept) W 22 AA1 D54: Over 3800 funding programs concerned with human health and biomedicine. Alphabetical listing with subject index.
Directory of research grants: with a guide to proposal planning and writing -- Grants (Ref Dept) LB 2338 D59 86: Annual directory offers factual and concise description of nearly 6000 research funding programs.

Foundation Directory -- Grants (Ref Dept) AS 911 A2 F65
The Foundation directory. Part 2 -- Grants (Ref Dept) AS 911 A2 F652: This annual directory includes information on over 7900 major funding organizations; Part 2 provides information on an additional 4800 mid-sized foundations. Allows you to identify potential funders by subject field; geographic region; donors, officers, and trustees; types of support; and foundation name. Examples of recent awards are given.
Foundation Grants Index -- Grants (Ref Dept) AS 911 A2 F773: This annually published document provides grant award information for over 1000 of the largest independent, corporate, and community foundations in the U.S. Program profiles are indexed by 28 broad subject areas, geographically, and by recipient category and recipient name.
National Directory of corporate giving: a guide to corporate giving programs and corporate foundations -- Grants (Ref Dept) AS 911 A2 N 277: Profiles over 2500 companies making contributions to non profit organizations. Includes Fortune 500 companies and Forbes 500 companies.
National Guide to Funding in Health -- Grants (Ref Dept) W 22 AA1 N2785: Provides profiles of funding organizations including contact information, financial data, giving priorities and limitations and application guidelines. Includes descriptions of recent grants by names of donors, officers, and trustees; subject area; geographic focus; and types of support.

Additional Print Resources: Many additional books on grants and grant proposal writing are available at the McGoogan Library of Medicine. Many are shelved in the special "Grants" section behind the Reference Desk. Others are located in the Reference bookcases and stacks, the book collection and the journal collection.
