Education DepartmentServices ServicesConsultationsA Librarian will meet with you by appointment, either in your office or in the Library to help you make the most of the many information resources which the Library has to offer. This assistance may include, but is not limited to, database searching, finding information on the World Wide Web, and using specialized online resources. Group classes/workshops, toursThe Education Department is available to provide group classes or workshops on information resources (print or electronic), and information retrieval, evaluation and use. The Education Department will also develop workshops to meet your specific needs. Class presentationsA Librarian will provide a presentation tailored to students' needs on topics such as effective information retrieval techniques, database searching, Internet information retrieval and evaluation, etc. Workshops are typically scheduled in the Library's multimedia training facility, but may be held elsewhere if appropriate. Course assignment assistance/guidesIf you are giving students assignments which require information research, the Library Education Department can provide assistance in guiding students to worthwhile information resources, and in teaching students to evaluate and cite their sources. A written or web-based guide to sources in a subject area can be prepared in advance. Workshops or a class-presentation related to the assignment may also be provided. Subject-oriented guides to information resourcesLibrarians at McGoogan have developed numerous finding aides and guides to the many information resources available. Suggestions of topics for subject guides which you would find useful are welcome.
