ALTERNATIVE COMMUTE-TO-WORK RECOGNITION
UNMC LiveGreen members would also like to express their gratitude to all of the individuals who participated in the Alternative Commute-to-Work Day and/or who regularly use alternative transportation to get to work. To highlight an example of someone who participated in this event and who regularly uses an alternative method of travel for getting to campus, we would like to share Maggie Jones’ story. Maggie works in the Reimbursement Department for UNMC Physicians and walks every day to work. She has not owned a car in over 12 years! Thank you to Maggie and all of UNMC employees and students who helped celebrate Earth Week by participating in Alternative Commute-to-Work Day.
HOUSEHOLD ELECTRONICS RECYCLING TOTALS
On Thursday, April 21st, the employees and students of The Nebraska Medical Center and UNMC jointly collected over 4,651 pounds of old/obsolete electronic equipment to be safely recycled or remanufactured. As a result of this event, employees and students prevented over 7,560 pounds of carbon dioxide from entering the atmosphere; this is equivalent to saving approximately 1,280 gallons of gas from being consumed. Thank you to everyone who participated in this exciting and successful event!
