- Shut your sash when leaving
- Keep an 18” sash height while working in a fume hood
- Use small lamps for specific areas
- Use standby mode for period of inactivity of 30 minutes or more
- Turn thermostat down before leaving for the day
- Maximize use of sunlight
- Keep lab doors & windows shut to prevent excess ventilation
- Substitute stairs for the elevator
- Conserve water when washing equipment
- Combine items to run fuller loads in automatic glassware washers or autoclave
- Move items blocking the fume hood sash (ex: gloves, vials, tubes, etc.)
- Put storage items in cabinets rather than fume hood
- Turn off lights when leaving
- Turn off your computer when leaving for the day
- Defrost freezers annually to eliminate frost buildup
- Keep a cleared radius of 3” to reduce the heat load
- Clean refrigerator & freezer coils to maintain efficiency
