
The University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) is a comprehensive health sciences center which opened as the Omaha Medical College in 1881. UNMC is composed of four colleges: Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing and Pharmacy. The other major components of UNMC are the School of Allied Health Professions, Munroe-Meyer Institute for Genetics and Rehabilitation, Eppley Institute for Research in Cancer and Allied Diseases, the Graduate Studies program, and the Nebraska Medical Center, which is comprised of the former University and Clarkson Hospitals, private practice physicians, University Medical Associates, and more than 20 primary outreach programs in 100 communities in five states. The Leon S. McGoogan Library of Medicine houses approximately 220,000 bound volumes and is a National Library of Medicine Regional Medical Library. 
Student Services includes the Offices of Student Equity and Multicultural Affairs, Financial Aid, Academic Records/Special Programs and the Center for Healthy Living. Housing assistance, student counseling and other student health services are also available.
The Center for Healthy Living is an on-campus facility which provides the following amenities: racquetball courts, double-sized gym, aerobic room, weight lifting equipment, stationary bikes, treadmills, stair machines, and fitness testing and individual assistance with activity programs.
