User Tips for grantsERA Grant Proposals

 

·        Access to grantsERA (RAMS)

o       Use Mozilla Firefox as your internet browser

§        Explorer does not fully support the submission software

o       Contact SPAdmin via email or call 559-7456, to link an Administrative Assistant to a Primary Investigator

o       PI’s must be entered by SPAdmin

o       Make sure your pop-up blocker is turned off! Instructions on how to do so are contained within the User Manual on grantsERA/RAMS

 

·        Primary Investigator Profile Information

o       Enter the PI name exactly as listed in the PI’s NIH Commons ID

§        text sensitive:  e.g., Charlie versus Charles

§        case sensitive:  e.g.,  FIRSTNAME.LASTNAME versus Firstname.Lastname

 

·        SF 424 Package

o       Face Page:  Double-check the accuracy of date fields in the SF424 Face Page

o       Other Significant Contributors:  Enter in the Senior Key Personnel section

 

·        Attachments

o       Must be in PDF format

o       Attachments cannot contain headers, footers, or page numbers

o       Must be no larger than 10 megabytes

o       NIH placed limitations on PDF attachment titles

§        Limit file names to 30 characters or less

§        Ensure the PDF conversion software does not add characters

§        Use only standard characters in file names

·        Use A through Z, a through z, 0 – 9, hyphen (-) and underscore (_)

·        No spaces

 

·        Appendix

o       Reference the new Appendix Limitations for NIH Grant Proposals (NOT-OD-07-018). This is effective for all submissions on or after January 3, 2007

 

·        Budget Information

o       When filling out the RR Budget (Page 1), select either the “Project” or “Subaward/Consortium” button

o       On the Detailed Budget, be aware that the cost amounts will not round up or round down

o       When entering Subcontract information, the DUNS field is required

§        If the subcontractor does not have a DUNS, input nine zeros (000000000)

§        Make sure potential collaborating institutions are aware of the email they will received from spadmin@unmc.edu to complete the Subcontractor budget

o       Save time in the PHS398 Modular Budget Section by using the “Copy Data” function to input data in subsequent budget years. Just change the dates of each budget and you are set! If data saving problems occur, please contact SPAdmin at 559-7456

 

·        Human Subjects Information

o       When submitting the Human Subjects data, do not include “FWA”, just put in the numbers “00002939”

 

·        Contact your SPAdmin Research Administrator when…

o       If you lose information

§        For example, when saving pages or moving between pages, a problem which most often happens when working with modular budgets

o       You need to make changes to a completed application

§        Your Research Administrator will reset your proposal to “In Progress”
