A Surgical robot called the Da Vinci Surgical System, was used in the surgical removal of tonsil cancer by Dr. Russell Smith for the first time in Nebraska at the Nebraska Medical Center.
Dr. Smith performed oral surgery on a patient. The DaVinci surgical system allowed the surgeon to reach the tumor in the back of the patients throat without having to perform the convential method of breaking the patients jaw. Recovery time was drastically reduced for the patient.
