Ventral Hernias
A Ventral hernia can be caused by previous incisions or can be congenital. Symptoms such as pain and discomfort are common, and occasionally these hernias can be life threatening if your intestines become twisted, or strangulated, through the abdominal wall defect.
Dr.’s Oleynikov, McBride and Goede all have extensive experience in repairing Ventral Hernia’s laparoscopically. Typically a laparoscopic Ventral Hernia is performed by making three very small incisions along the side of your abdomen. The hernia sac is removed and the abdominal contents are returned to their normal location. Mesh is then used to cover the hernia, reinforcing the abdominal wall. Most patients can go home the same day of surgery, but some with larger hernias benefit from an overnight stay in the hospitalMore information can be found on the Nebraska Medical Center web site.
