Test name: Cancer Microarray
Also known as: Cancer Array
Indications: Hematologic malignancies, specifically AML, ALL, CLL, CML and NHL
Test Information:
- Cancer Microarray is a test following (or used in conjunction with) chromosome analysis and/or FISH of diagnostic bone marrow, cancer blood, lymph node, or tumor tissue specimens
- A SNP/oligo platform assesses copy number changes in over 1,200 cancer-related genes and identifies copy neutral loss of heterozygosity (cnLOH) within tumor-suppressor gene regions
- This assay is particularly helpful with specimens with low mitotic index due to the disease
- This assay is unable to detect balanced translocations, or the location of duplicated or rearranged segments
- Increased resolution may identify uncertain clinical findings or unexpected abnormalities unrelated to malignancy (constitutional, consanguinity)
Specimen requirements*: Test kits are available – please contact the laboratory
*HGL will attempt to run tests on smaller volume samples
- Bone Marrow: 3 ml bone marrow in a 3 ml sodium heparin (green top) tube
Instructions: Bone marrow from 1st or 2nd aspirate using a sodium-heparinized syringe - Cancer Blood: 3-5 ml peripheral blood in a sodium heparin (green top) tube
- Lymph Node / Solid Tumor Tissue: ≥5 mm3 of lymph node or representative tumor tissue in culture media
- Paraffin Embedded Tissue: 5-10 dissected cores from selected malignant region
