University Center for Excellence In Developmental Disabilities Education, Research and Service
The MMI University Center for Excellence in Disabilities (UCEDD) provides innovative leadership in education, research and services to people with disabilities, the community, and families.
We promote the independence, self-determination, productivity, integration, and inclusion of individuals with developmental disabilities and provide supports for families.
Policy and Systems Change Activities
MMI UCEDD Policy and Systems Change activities focus MMI resources on local, state, and national disability-related public policy issues. The research and clinical expertise of MMI faculty, staff, and trainees are made available to inform public policy discussions and legislation.
MMI works closely with Nebraska Advocacy Services and the Nebraska Developmental Disabilities Council to coordinate with these agencies on key issues that affect individuals with disabilities and their families in legislative activities and policy development. The institute also coordinates regular visits and tours of the MMI UCEDD for local, state, and national legislative and congressional members and their staffs. Many MMI faculty and staff serve on national and state public policy and planning committees and task forces.
Community Advocacy
UCEDD faculty and staff focus on activities to strengthen the voices of people with disabilities and their families. Disability training, legislative advocacy and disability awareness activities are provided by the UCEDD.
The leadership of the MMI UCEDD is advised by the Community Advisory Board, which is made up of individuals with disabilities, family members, representatives from community agencies and others statewide who are knowledgeable in disability-related issues.
