The following Application Addendum is required in addition to the Application for Graduate Studies (see admission requirements).  The Application Addendum should be submitted electronically.

      Additional Requirements for Biostatistics and Epidemiology include:

  • Official GRE scores within last three years. A waiver may be requested by domestic students who have successfully completed a prior graduate degree.
  • Receipt of a grade of a least a B (or 3.00) in college algebra, or a more advanced mathematics course, taken within 5 yeas of the program application.
  • Receipt of a B or above (3.00 or higher on the University of Nebraska grade scale) in a statistics course taken within 5 years of program application.
  • Additionally,the Biostatistics concentration requires differential and integral calculus as well as linear algebra, taken within 10 years of program application with at least a 'B' (i.e. 3.00 or higher on the University of Nebraska grade scale).

        Please Note:

Letters of recommendation should be from academic or professional references which specifically address your interest in public health and your potential to contribute to the field, your preparation for succeeding in a graduate program, and any personal characteristics or skills which would make you a particularly effective public health practitioner.

Letters of recommendation must be submitted to the UNMC Office of Academic Records.


Personal statement:

Submit a personal essay (limit 1 page) directly to the MPH Program (address listed at the bottom of this page) which clearly states:

  • why you have chosen to pursue graduate studies in the field of public health, i.e. why you want an MPH degree;

  • what you expect to learn and how you plan to use your education or what your career goals are after you graduate;

  • a self-assessment of your quantitative/analytic skills, your personal strengths and your general preparation for succeeding in a program of graduate studies in public health.

Checklist:
Remember, in addition to this electronic application addendum, you must submit an application to Graduate Studies at UNMC and provide the following forms and documents to complete the application process:
  1. course information (course title, number, where taken, description/syllabi, dates taken and grade received) for consideration of transfer of graduate credit hours;

  2. resume of public health-related employment/volunteer history.;

  3. three letters of recommendation;

  4. personal statement.
