UNMC's mission statement

To improve the health of Nebraska through premier educational programs, innovative research, the highest quality patient care and outreach to underserved populations.

UNMC has completed its site visit
by The Higher Learning Commission of
the North Central Association of
Colleges and Schools (HLC-NCA)
. HLC-NCA accredits UNMC as a whole, and HLC-NCA accreditation complements our many accreditations by specialized accrediting bodies.

The Higher Learning Commission has recommend 10 years of reaccreditation (2016 - 2017) and UNMC's request to expand distance education degree and degree completion programs. Click here to read about the team's exit report.

Our preparation for the accreditation team site visit on Jan. 8-10, 2007, was led by Dr. John Benson, supported by Dr. John Adams, Dr. David Crouse and Mary Helms serving as an executive committee, and by the members of the steering committee. They led the task forces in writing the self-study report that was submitted to the Commission.

The self-study required a good deal of time and effort, and I am proud of the result. The self-study report effectively tells the UNMC story and provides a thorough introduction to UNMC for the site visitors. The guiding principles that we have adopted and the process that we are following are set forth below.

UNMC's self study is available online. Please click here to review it.

Harold M. Maurer, M.D.
Chancellor

Our guiding principle:
UNMC will benefit from its self-study for the HLC-NCA.

We will:

  • Become even more learning-centered.
  • Enhance our quality indicators.
  • Strengthen strategic planning.
  • Deepen our understanding of ourselves.
  • Expand institutional data sets and analysis.
  • Achieve reaccreditation with no qualifications.

Integrating themes

  • Future orientation
  • Learning focus
  • Connectedness to the community
  • Distinctiveness of UNMC

UNMC enjoys full accreditation by The Higher Learning Commission and is a member of The North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. For more information, go to www.ncahigherlearningcommission.org
