Nebraska Health Data Reporter - Vol 1 Number 1
Authors: Dan Strickland, Joan Dietrich This article is a reprint of a report which appeared first in the Nebraska Health Information Project: 1995 Databook. Data from the Special Supplemental Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) were used to study the causes of low birth weight. The study summarized in this report found that young mothers who smoke and gain little weight during pregnancy are much more likely to deliver pre-term, low birth weight babies.
