Mary Ann (Quinn) Linder was born in Omaha, Neb. Coincidentally, for a time, the family home was adjacent to the UNMC campus at 44th and Farnam Street. At a young age she developed multiple sclerosis and by age 30 was completely disabled. However, because of excellent nursing care she lived nearly 40 years longer, to see her grandchildren become young adults.
To acknowledge the importance of nursing education in assuring a strong workforce of nurses in Nebraska, the Linder Family Foundation has established a nursing scholarship fund through the University of Nebraska Foundation.
Mary Ann’s family includes Dr. James and Karen Linder of Omaha, three grandchildren – Emily Linder of Arvada, Colo., Eric Linder of Denver, Colo. and Kari Linder of Irvine, Calif., her brother Edward J. Quinn Jr. of Aurora, Colo., step-sister Myrt M. Quinn of Omaha, and deceased brothers Joseph H. Quinn and John G. Quinn and parents Edward J. Quinn and Mary E. Quinn.
In recognition of the Linder Family’s support of nursing education, UNMC has established the Mary Ann Linder Foyer and Student Commons on the center’s third level. The family is pleased that future generations of nurses educated at UNMC will benefit from the new foyer and student commons.
