“Teamwork divides the task and multiplies the success.”

Although the author of this quote is unknown, success has been achieved by the UNMC CON CNE team members. “Accreditation with Distinction” is the highest recognition awarded by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Accreditation Program (ANCC). The process for receiving accreditation as a provider is extensive, requiring the organization to keep meticulous records and to present a rigorous summary report demonstrating strict compliance to ANCC continuing nursing education guidelines. The designation of “with Distinction” is a new award reserved to recognize top units that follow processes that ensure consistent and accurate adherence to the criteria mentioned above. The UNMC CON CNE unit will be listed on the ANCC website directory of accredited organizations, which will reflect this special designation. Accounting/Office Associate Tim Gilbert responds to the news: “I feel fortunate to be associated with such a hard-working and dedicated group of individuals.” In a mirror comment, Accounting/ Program Associate Robert Schmida replied, “This four year Accreditation with Distinction designation is truly a team effort.   Every member, in one way or another, provides input into each program we offer.   We are fortunate to have such talented and dedicated team members.”

The UNMC CON CNE office forwards the mission and vision of the College of Nursing and of the UNMC by providing lifelong learning opportunities for nurses both across the state of Nebraska and beyond using both traditional and emerging learning technologies. This is possible through the use of numerous educational platforms, including live presentation, simulcast lectures broadcast via IP video, and self-paced web based learning activities accessible to learners 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The use of this technology has resulted in quality continuing education for nurses on a wide selection of topics from all 50 states, Puerto Rico, D.C., Canada, Australia, and the Middle East. College of Nursing Dean, Dr. Juliann Sebastian, responded to the news by stating, “I am continually impressed by the quality of the work our faculty and staff are doing. The fact that the college is able to contribute to lifelong learning of nurses in so many meaningful ways is evidence of this world class quality.” Dr. Catherine Bevil, Director of Continuing Nursing Education agrees. “This is an incredibly talented CNE team.  Our accreditation success is a result of the talents they bring to their work and their commitment to working together, sharing and critiquing ideas, and challenging and supporting one another to be the best they can be.  I am proud to be associated with this group.”

“Achieving Accreditation with Distinction is a huge accomplishment for our office, the CON, and the UNMC as a whole!” explains Program/Office Associate Anjella Wittman. “This distinction is a formal recognition of the hard work and dedication that we provide on a daily basis to all of our clients and to the CON.” Dr. Heidi Keeler, Nurse Planner, responded, “We pride ourselves on providing high quality programs and excellent customer service, including fast turnaround and close attention to details. If that is what is considered “with Distinction,” well, that’s just what we do!”
