DNP - Plan of Study

DNP courses and plans of study:

Our DNP program is a 35-credit postmaster's program. It consists of nine courses, one of which is the Capstone Project that students complete after finishing their didactic course work. Elective courses are also possible, based on a student's career goals and consultation with his/her faculty advisor.

Full- and part-time plans of study are possible.

Below is a sample 4-semester, full-time plan of study and a sample part-time plan of study in which a student elects to take one course per semester.

Beyond these two plans are multiple options that can accommodate individual student needs. For example, a student may elect to take two courses some semesters and one course other semesters. A plan tailored to individual student needs will be developed in consultation with the faculty advisor.

2 This table illustrates one approach to the plan of study for a student who elects to take one course per semester. In this plan, the “supporting” courses are taken first, so that the DNP-specific courses can be taken in a continuous sequence just prior to the capstone project. Other approaches are possible, as determined by the student and advisor. Please note that because many courses are offered only once a year, plans of study with one course per semester may contain a semester toward the end when no required course is offered. If this scenario is unavoidable, it is suggested that the student take an elective. Students must be registered continuously in fall and spring semesters. The alternative is to take a leave of absence (see Leave of Absence policy).
