The Special
Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and
Children (WIC)

What is WIC?
WIC provides nutritious foods, nutrition counseling, and referrals
to health and other social services to participants at no charge. WIC is
effective in improving the health of pregnant women, new mothers, and
their infants.
Who is eligible?
The target population is low-income, nutritionally at risk:
- Pregnant women (through pregnancy and 6 weeks after birth or
after pregnancy ends).
- Breastfeeding women (up to infant’s 1st birthday)
- Nonbreastfeeding postpartum women (up to 6 months after the
birth of an infant or after pregnancy ends).
- Infants (up to 1st birthday).
- Children up to their 5th birthday.
To be eligible on the basis of income, applicants’
income must fall at or below 185 percent of the U.S. Poverty Income
Guidelines. Visit

If participants are currently receiving Medicaid/Kids Connection, ADC
or Food Stamps, they automatically income qualify for the program.
