Welcome from the Program Coordinator
Hello and welcome to the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program. Our program knows that prospective interns take many variables into consideration when choosing a residency program. Location, reputation, and personal life are important factors one must consider.
The Omaha metropolitan area population is approximately 830,000 and is ranked as one of the best cities in the United States to "live, work and play. Omaha has been described as a “hidden jewel in the middle of the Heartland”. Omaha has many activities for everyone, and more restaurants per capita than most cities. The thriving night life offers live theatre, dancing, concerts and museums. It is the home to The Henry Doorly Zoo, Lauritzen Gardens, Holland Performing Arts Center, the Historic Old Market, Omaha Children’s Museum and is home to Baseball’s College World Series.
Omaha draws many residents simply because it is large enough to get lost, but still small enough to know your neighbor and with the variety of activities, it makes it a very attractive place to live and a wonderful place to raise a family.
Many people believe Nebraska is filled with cowboys and cornfields, but it has so much more. Only in Nebraska can you go from skyscrapers to Chimney Rock, from interstates to the Oregon Trail. Nebraskans are friendly, helpful and family-oriented. And on Saturdays, during football season, the state becomes a sea of Husker Red. Our residents will gladly tell you that the camaraderie among residents makes this program unique. You will immediately feel the strong familial bond.
Choosing a residency program is a scary and confusing time for many prospective interns and I know that, so please take the time to browse our website and learn more about us and you will discover that UNMC and Omaha is simply the best of all worlds combined.
