Dr. Kenneth Noller Bio
Dr. Noller was raised in a blue collar
family in Topeka KS, and is the eldest of seven children. After just
barely surviving adolescence, he studied history at Creighton University
in Omaha Nebraska, where he also received his MD degree. After an
internship in Kansas City, Missouri, he finished a residency in
Obstetrics and Gynecology, and an MS, with an emphasis in epidemiology,
at the Mayo Clinic. He seemed to flourish in the harsh Minnesota climate
and spent a total of 17 years at Mayo. He was lucky to obtain NIH
funding in 1974, and has been continuously funded by NCI for the past 35
years.
For some reason, the Dean at the University
of Massachusetts School of Medicine thought Noller might be able to run
an academic department, so in 1989 he became Professor and Chair of OB-Gyn
at that institution. In 2000, he moved to Boston to become the Louis E
Phaneuf Professor and Chair of OB-Gyn at Tufts University. While at
Tufts, he became very active in ACOG, and served as its president in
2007-8. He left Tufts in 2009 to accept the position of Director of
Evaluation at the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG).
One of his roles is to manage the very popular MOC program.
Ken probably has ADD, which might explain
his interest in so many subjects. Medieval history, woodworking,
gardening, copy-editing, writing and fishing are a few of his favorite
pastimes. His best friend is his wife of 42 years, Mary. His favorite
people are his four children, daughters- and son-in-law, and his 3
grandchildren.
