Description
- The focus of this multi disciplinary conference is on the management of
patients with gynecologic malignancies.
A case conference format will be used.
Cases for presentation will be chosen several days in advance.
A synoptic (one page) narrative of the patient's history, physical,
diagnostic work-up and surgical findings will be prepared by the Chief
Resident. Pathology materials and selected radiographs will be reviewed.
The Chief Resident will present appropriate treatment options
including a summary of pertinent literature to support their
recommendations. A generalized
discussion of the patient management will then be led by a gynecologic
oncology faculty member during which comments and questions from those in
attendance are requested.
Objectives
1.
The resident be able to classify the stage and prognosis of patients
with gynecologic cancers.
2.
The resident will be able to formulate treatment plans and
demonstrate knowledge of the medical literature to support their plan.
3.
The resident will be able to identify the potential complications of
cancer treatment.
4.
The resident will actively participate in the planning and ultimately
the management of patients with gynecologic cancers.

- This weekly working conference is intended to discuss the case management
of current complicated pregnancies to be seen in Thursday afternoon
high-risk clinic or in other resident clinics as needed.
Discussion is led by the chief resident and based on the patients
presenting to clinic in the next week.
It is a multi-discipline interaction including the faculty, nurses,
social workers and nutritionists.
Objectives
1.
The resident will identify pregnancy risk factors and be able to
discuss the etiology and pathophysiology of maternal diseases.
2.
The resident will be able to formulate treatment plans and
demonstrate knowledge of the medical literature to support their plan.

Description
- This is a weekly case-oriented teaching conference focusing on prenatal
diagnosis and neonatal management of the anomalous fetus.
Case presentations, ultrasound and laboratory findings will be
discussed. A multi-disciplinary approach is utilized with participation
from pediatric surgery, neonatology, anesthesiology, and radiology, for the
comprehensive care of the fetus and newborn.
One of the conferences monthly focuses on a genetics topic.
Objectives
1.
The junior resident will demonstrate the ability to present cases in
a concise manner.
2.
The chief resident will be able to formulate treatment plans and
demonstrate knowledge of the medical literature to support their plan.
3.
All residents will learn to identify structural abnormalities in the
fetus and explain the significance of the ultrasound findings.

Description
This weekly formal lecture series deals with topics of current interest
in obstetrics and gynecology. Each
session is assigned to a faculty member, resident physician, or speaker from
outside of the department well in advance.
The fourth Wednesday of each month is reserved for resident case
presentations. At each of these Grand Rounds, two case presentations will be
made, one an obstetric case and one a gynecologic case.
Two residents will present at each of these sessions.
A first and fourth year resident will present on one month with the
next month being represented by a second and third year resident.
A total of ten sessions will be required throughout the year. Each case presentation should represent a real case that the
resident has been involved in and presented over approximately 20 minutes
allowing for a 10-minute question and answer period. Each resident should identify a faculty advisor in advance
for his or her presentation and the faculty advisor should be present at the
time of the presentation to allow for faculty and resident interaction.
(In July, Grand Rounds is
replaced with other educational events).
Objectives
1.
The residents will be responsible for a Grand Rounds session will be
notified approximately one month in advance.
Residents should schedule these sessions with Dr. Smiths
secretary.

Description
Residents will present and discuss two current or classic journal
articles. Presentation assignments are rotated through the entire group
of residents. This presentation
is followed by a discussion of the article focusing on methods, statistics
and translation into practice. Faculty
mentors will be assigned to each article to assist the presenting resident
with concepts that may be new to them.
Additionally, this meeting will be utilized for the residents to keep
each other apprised of developments in their research projects once they
have approval and enrollment is underway.
Objectives-

the literature in the specialty of obstetrics and gynecology

This core lecture series is designed to cover 100 major topics encompassing
the three major sub-specialty areas in obstetrics and gynecology.
Division directors from Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Reproductive

facilitators for these two-hour conferences.
Basic science, clinical problems and psychosocial issues will
continue to be emphasized. Learning

Description
- The purpose of this fetal heart rate tracing round is to review all the
interesting, controversial as well as complicate tracings through an open
discussion led by faculty of the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Division.
The presenting resident can take advantage of this opportunity to
stump the professors during or after the discussion session including the
prediction of Apgar score and umbilical cord blood gas and acid-base value.
Objectives -
1.
The medical students are introduced to the nomenclature outlined by
the NIH for the interpretation of the fetal heart rate tracing.
2.
The resident will demonstrate the ability to interpret uncomplicated
and complicated fetal heart rate tracings.
The
resident will formulate reasonable management plans based on the reviewed
fetal heart rate tracings.
