The mission of the Office of Student Equity and Multicultural Affairs (OSEMA) is to recruit and retain academically qualified health care education students for the University of Nebraska Medical Center. Special efforts are directed toward recruitment of students who are Nebraska residents, socio-economically and educationally disadvantaged students, individuals who can demonstrate a sincere interest in working in underserved medical communities or reducing health disparities in underrepresented populations, individuals underrepresented in the health professions, and students from non-traditional backgrounds.
The mission is actualized by the OSEMA staff through coordinated efforts with UNMC program faculty focused on retaining current students and recruiting prospective grade school, high school and college students, and increasing community awareness regarding various health care career options offered at UNMC.
The OSEMA staff also provide a wide range of independent initiatives aimed at identifying, motivating, and preparing college and pre-college level students to pursue careers in the health sciences. The OSEMA staff both initiate and participate in collaborative programs at Nebraska higher education institutions and with professional and community groups to establish additional pathways for talented students and the community to learn more about health care careers.
The following services are available through the Office of Student Equity and Multicultural Affairs, which is located in the Student Life Center Room 2070, across from the Student Customer Service desk:
