For 20 years (1987-2007), Tom O'Connor (left), senior associate director of UNMC Public Relations Department, and William Gust, M.D., assistant professor of UNMC Department of Internal Medicine, served as co-hosts of "Community Health Line," a weekly radio program featuring UNMC and community health experts. The program aired on Wednesdays from 10:30 to 11 a.m. on KIOS-FM (91.5).
Overall, the program aired for nearly 30 years and is believed to be the longest running health program in Omaha radio history. Dr. Gust's passion for the program was evident. In 1994, a serious throat infection required an emergency tracheotomy, which forever gave his voice a gravelly quality. The show is now off the air and a new program is in development.
