Psychiatry Service
The mission of the Division of Public
and Community Psychiatry is to improve the lives of persons with behavioral
health problems and neuro-developmental disorders by providing quality clinical care to persons with mental
illness, education to providers of care and participation in research for the
benefit of our patients.
The members of the Division:

Provide excellent clinical care in community
settings, services include general outpatient psychiatry with complementary
psychotherapy or behavioral therapy.

Collaborate with the State of Nebraska,
professional societies and select research activities to identify and address system needs to improve care

Cooperate with the Department of Psychiatry
Education Section to develop and provide education to medical students,
residents, and the community on evidence-based practices in the care of
persons with severe behavioral health problems.
Services are available through routine outpatient
appointments at the Adult Clinic. Also, Department faculty members
work with various community non-profit mental health and substance abuse
agencies to provide psychiatric services to persons with low income and serious
needs. The Department provides faculty members to the Omaha Veterans
Affairs Medical Center for clinical work in the inpatient, day hospital and outpatient areas, provides faculty for the Assertive
Community Treatment Team, consultation to the Winnebago Tribe of Nebraska, and
uses telemedicine technology to consult with the Norfolk Regional Center.
Division members participate in leadership roles with the Nebraska Psychiatric
Society, The Nebraska Medical Association, and the Metropolitan Omaha Medical
Society. Members provide leadership to the state of Nebraska by participation
with the Governor’s Mental Health Planning and Evaluation Council, and in the
form of Medical Director for the Health and Human Service Division.
