Biographical Sketch:
Dr. McNeilly serves as the Assistant Dean for Continuing Education, Director of Geriatric Psychiatry and the Director of Medical Student Education in psychiatry.

His research interests include problem gambling in older adults, victimization of older adults, and the assessment and treatment of depression and anxiety in older adults. He is a nationally recognized speaker and researcher on problem gambling among older adults and is a past president of the National Council on Problem Gambling.

Dr. McNeilly believes that growing older is a constant discovery of how we adapt to change, learn from our personal experience and make increasingly better choices. With increased age and retirement also comes the wisdom of our experience and a freedom from time, former responsibilities and previous worries. For some however, facing change in older adulthood can lead to feelings of increased vulnerability and a decreased ability to respond as one once did. In assessing and treating geriatric patients, Dr. McNeilly employs cognitive-behavioral psychotherapeutic treatments to help the older individual rediscover their sense of self purpose, personal wisdom and renewed ability to make the decisions of later life.

As a clinical geropsychologist and professor of psychiatry, his background includes degrees in psychology, education, theology, and political science. He enjoys travel and returned to Omaha in 1995 after receiving training in Chicago, Los Angeles, and also studying in Cambridge MA and Berkeley CA.
