Psychiatry Residency

One of the unique features of this residency program is its sponsorship by two departments of psychiatry – Creighton University Medical Center and the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. Drawing from the resources of these two academic partners ensures substantial flexibility in meeting the needs of our residents’ training and preparation for their careers in psychiatry. Fully accredited training is offered in General Psychiatry as well as Fellowships in Geriatric, Child & Adolescent, and Addictions Psychiatry.

Our program offers a balanced clinical and didactic curriculum emphasizing the integration of biological, psychological and social facets of patient care. Moreover, this training is carried out in a full array of academic, public and private hospitals and clinic settings. Residents have protected time to attend required educational activities including case conferences, journal clubs, Grand Rounds, and didactic courses. We encourage residents to participate in extramural educational activities including financially supporting each resident’s attendance at one national conference.

A notable strength of the program is the camaraderie of our residents. This is promoted in several ways including the active involvement of the residents in the Match process, weekly meetings of their Psychiatric Residents Organization, participation in the annual Resident Retreat and representation on the program’s Residency Training Committee. The faculty and administration actively seek out feedback from the residents about all facets of the training program.
